As I’m looking through the local newspaper today, I find myself thinking I need to reiterate the importance of marketing your website. I see so many ads for small businesses that I know have websites, but they are not printing the web address on newspaper ads. What a simple, easy way for people to find your website from the newspaper ad you placed in the paper.
In this day where it is very highly unlikely for a person who is curious about your business to pick up the phone and give you a call to find out what your business is all about, it is imperative to add your website address to all of your marketing efforts. This includes your newspaper ads, flyers, posters, business cards, outdoor and indoor signage, your business vehicle, email signature, radio spots and more.
Think of it this way, if you put your business name out there, you should also add your website address as well. Yes of course, a person can easily Google your business name as well, but adding your web address shows them that yes indeed you do have a website and are ready to provide them the information they might be looking for.
Now, on to Google and other search engines where people might try to find your business. My job is to design and develop your website with the necessary components for you to be found on the search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing. But it is also important to make sure your business and website address is listed with the search engine’s local listings. I also provide this service when setting up your website, but often you need to update or even add your business to new search engines like Bing if you have had your website for a while.
Adding your business as a local listing will greatly increase your search engine rankings and the ability for people to find your business online. A local listing is where your business, location, phone number, website address and details are added to the particular search engine website. Each search engine has their own unique local listing opportunity which you can set up on each site like Google.com, Yahoo.com and Bing.com.
